Early Years Teacher and PYP Learning Leader

Taught Early Years (KG and Pre-K) in an IB continuum school. Facilitated implementation and authorization of the PYP, collaboratively devised tools for documentation of student play and learning, and enhanced our child-centered facilities (workshop, studio, patios, and OPAL). As PYP Learning Leader, created a trusting professional learning community to share and inquire into instructional best practice, assisted the team in the collective analysis of student learning evidence to plan systematic teaching interventions, and drafted and modelled team norms, purpose statement, and beliefs.

Taught kindergarten and first grade at a pioneering school committed to preparing learners to be best for the world. Served as Team Facilitator, integrated age-appropriate technologies, and developed new units of inquiry aligned with our reading and writing workshop model. Utilized PowerSchool, DRA, NYTC workshop units, and EDM as curricular and assessment frameworks. Infused Reggio Emilia into the Early Years/KG program.

Provided after school activities for ASBE3 and presented at Unplugged technology conferences.

Taught the four/five year old section, purchased materials, designed resources, created support and administrative documents, and developed the student/parent handbook. Wrote units of inquiry and standards-based math/literacy curricula in preparation for IB PYP authorization. Served on Curriculum Council and Staff Association.

Upon request of administration, created a specialized pre-school curriculum and conducted inservice for the faculty.

Chaired school environment committee and served on child study, academic scholarship selection, and Focus:Diversity committees. Coordinated AFAR programs to introduce students in rural areas to the fine arts and advised the Spanish club. Conducted educational tours to Mexico, Chicago, and Minneapolis.
